That's Them. Not Me

“The line of Korah, however, did not die out.” Numbers 26.11

After a plague, the Lord told Moses to census all the survivors. In the middle of the genealogy in Numbers 26, a brief flashback is taken from Numbers 16. Korah and many followers revolted against Moses and Aaron’s leadership while the nation was traveling in the wilderness.  Because of the rebellion, Korah, his allies, and their households - over 250 people - died a bitter death. However, the Korah’s lineage did not die (folks that were kin to Korah but did not rebel as he did). In fact, they were promoted within the Israelite tribes. Korah’s descendants were responsible for guarding the Tabernacle, an essential baker of the offering bread, and a city gatekeeper (1 Chronicles 9.19; 9.31; 26.1). Korah’s descendants joined King Jehoshaphat in nationwide praise to God as they prepared for a landmark battle (2 Chronicles 20.19). Finally, his descendants authored eleven psalms.

The lesson is...

Perhaps our kin made some pretty raunchy decisions that they paid for dearly. Those choices did not affect us. That was their story. It’s not ours. We weren’t involved. God sees us and blesses us according to our heart posture. He even shows us mercy when we stumble.

Therefore, silence contrary voices. Stand with determination against an encroaching generational mindset that attempts to attach itself to you and derail your best possible life. That was their destiny; it does not have to be yours. Remember, you are capable of doing great things.

Learn the lessons. Keep your eye on YOUR prize. Keep moving forward with Jesus.
